EXAMINATIONS
ENQUIRY ABOUT RESULTS (EARs)

Candidate consent

Candidates must provide written consent when asking for an EAR.  The school will not submit any requests where the consent box has not been filled in.

Clerical re-check (Service 1)

This is a re-check of all clerical procedures leading to the issue of a result.

This service will include the following checks:

  • that all parts of the script have been marked;
  • the totalling of marks;
  • the recording of marks.

Review of marking (Service 2)

This is a review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly.  It is not a re-marking of the candidate’s script.

This service will include:

  • the clerical re-checks detailed above;
  • a review of marking as described above.

Priority review of marking (Service 2)

This is a priority review of the original marking to ensure that the agreed mark scheme has been applied correctly.  It is not a re-marking of the candidate’s script.

This service is only available if a GCE A-Level candidate’s place in higher education is dependent on the outcome.

Please note that for any of the above services, candidates’ marks and subject grades may be lowered.  Where there has been a reduction in marks or a downgrade, the request cannot be revoked and the original mark or grade cannot be reinstated.

Priority access to scripts

This service is available to candidates who are thinking of requesting a priority review of marking.

Copy of script (Non-Priority)

Once a candidate has requested a non-priority copy of script, they cannot request a review of marking.

Please note that requests received after the deadlines will not be accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Which service do I want?

  • I just want to see the script and do not want a review of the original marking

You should request a copy of the script (No. 8 on the post-results services form).

  • I want to see a script to decide whether to have its marking reviewed

You should ask for a priority copy of the script (No. 7 on the post-results services form).

  • A Higher Education place is at stake, what service shall I use

You should apply for a priority review of marking.  This is because you only have until 24 August 2017 to request this service.

  • If I request a copy of the script, can I use that to decide whether or not to have the marking reviewed

Yes, provided that you request the priority script and submit the review of marking by no later than 21 September 2017.
