Last Saturday, year 11 student Nik Jones travelled to Shaftesbury school to take part in the Regional final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition, representing Casterbridge Rotary Club.  He prepared and cooked an impressive menu of three courses in two hours, all for under £15.  He started with Pan seared Lyme bay scallops with caponata vegetables and  chorizo,  with a fennel foam, followed by sesame seeded  Creedy duck breast with beetroot and Dorset wasabi mash, wilted bok choy and honey and teriyaki sauce for a main course,  and a dessert of lemon grass and kafir leaves pannacotta,  with citrus curd and candied lemon peel to finish  Nik was able to finish well within the time, presenting his dishes with flair and creativity, but unfortunately, this was not enough to gain a place in the National final, the winner being Jonny Smith from Gosport Rotary Club.

We are very proud of Nik nonetheless for taking part, and thanks go also to his father Jamie Jones from Yalbury Cottage for coaching him through the competition.  We wish Nik lots of luck in his future career as a chef.
