Kai wows judges in Cookery Competition

Last week, Kai Trevett in 10EM took part in the THE TEFLON DIAMOND STANDARD AWARDS cookery competition at the Waitrose cookery School in Finchley Road, London. 

He beat several thousand other entries in his age group nationwide to achieve a place in the final; producing an amazing Croquembouche in just over two hours.   Contestants could make any dish of their choice in the time available, with Kai choosing to do a dessert consisting of 48 choux buns, filled with home-made crème patisserie. These were then set in a cone shape with caramel to hold them in place. Finally, he created some spun sugar to complete the decoration.   Kai made every component of the dish himself, with the end result wowing the judges.

We are very proud of Kai, as he achieved third place, with a tie going to two first placed winners.  Steve from the Great British Bake Off  was one of the judges He told Kai  ‘Anyone that can make choux pastry that good at 15 will go a long way’.  Kai was really pleased with his performance,  although he was very nervous at the start and is now looking forward to entering more competitions next year.
