Fantastic Achievement for Oz

Oz Presentation

Last Saturday, Oz Eastlake in 12MT travelled to Exeter College to take part in the regional final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition where he beat seven other finalists to win a place in the national final!

This really is an amazing achievement; Oz wowed the judges with dishes of pan fried cod loin, with bouillabaisse and seasonal vegetables, followed by roast rump of lamb with a walnut crust, pesto, squash puree and hispi cabbage, finishing with vanilla panna cotta decorated with young forced rhubarb, raspberry coulis and a biscoff crumb.

Oz was calm and focused throughout the two hours cooking time, demonstrating careful consideration of hygiene and safety, using as many locally sourced ingredients as he could find, and presenting his dishes to a faultless standard.

He now goes on to a place in the national final in Leeds on Saturday 27th April. This is only the third time in twelve years of the competition that we have had a student in the final; let’s hope he can bring the trophy home to Dorchester!

We are all incredibly proud of him and wish him the best of luck.
